Terms of Use

Effective: March 26, 2026  ·  storytaxindex.com

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using storytaxindex.com (the "Site"), you agree to be legally bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately discontinue use of the Site.

These Terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Site, including those who use the Story Tax Index score calculator, submit diagnostic data, join the waitlist, reserve a copy, or subscribe to the STI Tracker service.

If you are using the Site on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. The Diagnostic Is Not Professional Advice

The Story Tax Index (STI) score is a behavioral self-reflection tool intended for professional development and general informational purposes only. It is not — and must not be relied upon as — professional management consulting, financial, legal, HR, psychological, or medical advice.

Results are estimates based on anonymized behavioral pattern data and calibration inputs you provide. They reflect observed patterns in a study cohort and do not constitute a guarantee, prediction, or assessment specific to your organization, team, role, or circumstances.

Do not make material business decisions — including but not limited to hiring, termination, restructuring, strategic investment, capital allocation, or performance management actions — based solely or primarily on your STI score or the outputs of this diagnostic.

Individual results will vary. Research findings cited on this Site reflect observations from the study cohort and do not represent a guarantee of any outcome any individual user will experience.

3. Beta Status

This Site is currently in beta testing and active development. Features, content, diagnostic methodology, scoring logic, and outputs may change at any time without notice. We make no guarantee of availability, accuracy, data continuity, or fitness for any purpose during the beta period. Use during this period is at your own risk.

Beta users acknowledge that score outputs may change as the methodology is refined, and that data submitted during beta may be affected by future updates to the scoring model.

4. Permitted Use and Prohibited Conduct

You may use the Site only for lawful purposes consistent with these Terms. You must not:

  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the scoring methodology, weighting logic, or benchmark data underlying the STI calculator.
  • Use the Site or its outputs to develop a competing product or service, or to create derivative works of the diagnostic framework without prior written permission.
  • Submit fabricated, synthetic, or AI-generated signal block data designed to manipulate score outputs.
  • Use automated tools, bots, scrapers, or scripts to access, index, or extract content from the Site.
  • Attempt to probe, scan, or test the Site for security vulnerabilities, or circumvent any access controls, rate limits, or authentication measures.
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation with any organization.
  • Use the Site in any way that violates applicable federal, state, or local law or regulation.
  • Harvest, collect, or aggregate other users' data from the Site for any purpose.

We reserve the right to terminate or restrict access for any user who violates these Terms.

5. No Warranty

The site and all content, tools, services, scores, cost estimates, and outputs are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We expressly disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or harmful components. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, reliability, timeliness, or suitability of any score output, cost estimate, benchmarking figure, or behavioral interpretation. Your use of the site and reliance on any output is entirely at your own risk.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Reid Carter (Balaram Krishna) and Fintentive Press, and their respective officers, agents, and representatives, shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, including but not limited to lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, business interruption, or reputational harm, arising from or related to: (a) your access to or use of, or inability to access or use, the site; (b) reliance on any score, cost estimate, benchmark, or recommendation produced by the diagnostic; (c) any decision, action, or omission made based on outputs from the site; (d) unauthorized access to or alteration of your data; or (e) any conduct of a third party on the site.
In no event shall our total cumulative liability to you for all claims arising out of or related to these terms or your use of the site exceed one hundred US dollars ($100.00), regardless of the form of action or the basis of the claim.

In jurisdictions that do not permit the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.

7. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Reid Carter (Balaram Krishna), Fintentive Press, and their respective officers, agents, and representatives from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, judgments, awards, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Site in violation of these Terms; (b) your violation of any applicable law or regulation; (c) any claim that information or data you submitted to the Site infringes or misappropriates any third-party intellectual property, privacy, or other right; or (d) your breach of any representation or warranty made in these Terms.

8. Intellectual Property

"Story Tax," "Story Tax Index," and the five-pillar diagnostic framework (Decision Identity, Delegation Integrity, Meeting Theater, After-Hours Processing, Speed Signature) are trademarks and proprietary intellectual property of Reid Carter (Balaram Krishna), registration pending. All diagnostic methodology, scoring logic, pillar definitions, weighting frameworks, and written content on this Site are © MMXXVI Reid Carter. All rights reserved.

You may not reproduce, redistribute, sublicense, modify, reverse-engineer, or use any part of the diagnostic methodology, scoring logic, or score calculator for commercial purposes without prior written permission from Reid Carter (Balaram Krishna). Requests for licensing or academic use may be submitted to info@storytaxindex.com.

9. License to Process Your Submitted Data

By submitting a signal block, calibration inputs, or other data to the Site, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to process, store, and use that data for the purposes described in our Privacy Policy, which include:

  • Calculating and returning your STI score and pillar breakdown.
  • Operating and improving the STI Tracker service.
  • Research and methodology development. After de-identification, your anonymized score data may be used in aggregate to refine scoring weights, improve cohort benchmarks, and validate the five-pillar framework — as described in Section 4 of our Privacy Policy. You may opt out of research use at any time without affecting your access to the Site.
  • Publishing aggregate, anonymized findings (e.g., cohort benchmark reports, methodology updates, and research notes). Published outputs will never identify any individual user.

You represent and warrant that any data you submit does not contain the confidential information of third parties (such as colleague names, internal communications, or company-confidential meeting content), and that you have the right to submit it. The anonymized signal block format is designed specifically to exclude such information; you are responsible for confirming that your submission does not inadvertently include it.

We do not claim ownership of your submitted data. The license above is limited to the stated purposes and does not permit us to sell your data or use it for targeted advertising. You may request deletion of any linked data at any time per the terms of our Privacy Policy.

10. STI Tracker Subscription

The STI Tracker is a subscription service that provides weekly behavioral check-in prompts and score tracking. Subscriptions are managed through our platform and any applicable third-party payment processor. Subscription, cancellation, and refund terms are governed by the payment processor's policies and any additional terms presented at checkout.

We reserve the right to modify subscription pricing, features, and availability. Existing subscribers will receive no less than 30 days' notice of any material change to pricing or included features. You may cancel your subscription at any time; no partial-month refunds are provided unless required by applicable law.

We may suspend or terminate your Tracker subscription if you violate these Terms or engage in abuse of the check-in system (including submission of fabricated data).

11. Microsoft 365 Copilot

The diagnostic prompt is designed for use with Microsoft 365 Copilot, which requires a valid Microsoft 365 Copilot license held by you or your organization. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, certified by, or partnered with Microsoft Corporation. "Microsoft," "Microsoft 365," and "Copilot" are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. Use of Microsoft 365 Copilot is governed solely by your Microsoft license agreement and Microsoft's applicable policies.

12. Third-Party Services

The Site integrates with third-party services including Supabase (database), Resend (email delivery), and Cloudflare (hosting and CDN). We are not responsible for the content, availability, security, or privacy practices of those services. Your use of those services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.

13. Dispute Resolution and Arbitration

Informal resolution first. Before initiating any formal proceeding, you agree to contact us at info@storytaxindex.com and provide a written description of the dispute. We will attempt in good faith to resolve it within 30 days.

Binding arbitration. If the dispute is not resolved informally, any claim, controversy, or dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Site shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, except as provided below. The arbitration shall take place in Atlanta, Georgia, or by videoconference. The arbitrator's decision is final and binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction.

Exceptions. Either party may bring an individual action in small claims court for disputes within that court's jurisdiction. Either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent actual or threatened infringement of intellectual property rights.

Class action waiver. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, YOU WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO BRING OR PARTICIPATE IN ANY CLASS, COLLECTIVE, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION AGAINST US. ALL DISPUTES MUST BE BROUGHT ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS.

Opt-out. You may opt out of the arbitration agreement within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by sending written notice to info@storytaxindex.com with the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out."

14. Governing Law and Venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, United States of America, without regard to its conflict of law principles. For any dispute not subject to arbitration under Section 13, you consent to the exclusive personal jurisdiction of, and venue in, the state and federal courts located in Fulton County, Georgia.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, EACH PARTY WAIVES ANY RIGHT TO A TRIAL BY JURY IN ANY ACTION OR PROCEEDING ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SITE.

15. General Provisions

Entire Agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Site and supersede all prior or contemporaneous representations, understandings, and agreements.

Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force.

No Waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision in any future instance.

Force Majeure. We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, government actions, internet outages, third-party service failures, or other force majeure events.

Assignment. You may not assign or transfer any rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms without restriction.

Changes to Terms. We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated by updating the effective date and, where we hold your email, by direct notification with no less than 14 days' notice before the change takes effect. Your continued use of the Site after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
